More easter eggs - Zerg Egg from Starcraft 2

This blog started with an Easter egg a couple of years ago, and I will keep up the tradition in 2014.

The concept is: Find a cheap generic Easter egg and transform it. Earlier years I have made portal turret, starcraft pylon and GoT Dragon Egg

This time I'm making two, including a zerg egg from Starcraft 2.

Start with a plain Easter egg

Then with the help of tin foil and masking tape make the legs and rough details

With my trusted paper clay I made several different sized spikes

And with more paper clay I built up the details and attached the spikes.

The last details were made with just a glue gun. Then the egg was primed. I used Gesso and glue, to even out the roughness of my sculpting.

Then I of course forgot to take pictures during the painting process. Green base coat and with a sponge I added lighter greens.

For the "legs" brown base coat with purple highlights.

And the spikes are beige with yellow tips.

To get that nasty glossy look I covered it with two layers of glossy paint .

And I also made a Togepi egg for my sister.

Big Sister outfit sum up.

This is not a tutorial per say, more a showcase of the parts used for my Big Sister and Eleanor Lamb cosplay.

Some of the part like the helmet have been covered before. And I recently did a write up about the ADAM Syringe and corset/pant

But mostly for me and a little for you I want to sum up the other parts as well.

The undersuit.
Both the Big Sisters and Eleanor wear a white undersuit, but you can see much more of the detailing when Eleanor wears it. I simply sewed one pair of white leggings to a white long sleeved t-shirt around the torso. Then I sewed on a zipper down the front before cutting it open.

The details are just painted on. First I weathered it by bathing it in tea water, do get that worn look. Then I managed to get my sister to wear it while I painted on the details with acrylic paint.

Leg armor
More buckles and faux leather.

Cardboard from pizzaboxes covered in filler. For detailing I used a nylon rope.

The armor stands out from the thigh or calf.

And the calves, same but smaller.

Rust details.

The shoes

The tip is just part of a soda bottle painted brass.

Shoulder amor
Paper mache over balloons ;) Mix water and glue and dip strips of newspaper. cover the balloons and you have some nice half spheres.

When dry, cover with plaster and sand down.

The pauldrons were painted and here are allthe parts together.

Big sister - lower part of helmet

Flash back wednesday. This is a two year old costume, but what the heck, here it goes.

How to make the helmet

I figured, why not document this part of the costume too. Step one I made a mannequin by putting a stuffed t-shirt over the back of a chair and covered that again with a plastic bag.

Then we are back on paper mache

The neck is built up with foam mat and around the neck there is a plastic tube.

The paper mache is reinforced with glas fibre, Please do this outside. I'm sitting in a door way here with the ventilation on full, still should do this outside if possible. Ventilation is key!

Then add filler

And paint
