Fortune teller costume, great Halloween inspiration

Some people are an endless source of inspiration and my sister, Bettcanard Design is definitely on the top of my when it comes to creativity. A few weeks back she created this amazing Fortune Teller look, complete with a third eye and a jar of extra eyes. She even won first place in the style contest at Banzaicon with this incredible look.

And since Halloween is soon upon us, I thought this might serve as a excellent source of inspiration for you guys when planning your costumes this year. Head over to her webpage, bettcanard.com for more incredible sfx makeup. And yes, shes does take commissions and she sells makeup prosthetic.

This is Halloween

I love fall and Halloween, all the colors and creepy creative. And every year I make a few looks inspired by this season. Here you can see some of my earlier tutorials, eg how to make a zombie makeup.

For this season I give you fist a cute look with the witch Mercy (closet cosplay)

And another closet cosplay Emily from Corpse Bride

I also visited the children's ward again as a Spider Queen (updated version)

And here's the full group of cosplayers, with Nordic garrison in strong numbers.

And while in the middle of taking off the makeup I realized this could be a great look with a bald cap too - Spider Alien.

I also hosted my own Halloween party this year (I never get the time to do so) And created this clown inspired look.

All of NCC team Norway 2017 represent, me, Superhero Girl Creations and Bettcanard.

And as a tradition I made a new purse for my costume, to match my freak show spirit of the night.

And decorated my house for a Halloween party

Lastly there was a Halloween part at the office at work and my darling sister Bettcanard casted a third eye for me and I created this Fortune teller look.

Witch Mercy

I love the in game witch Mercy skin, but let's face it, I don't have time to build everything i love. In stead I really wanted to make a closet cosplay of her Witch costume from the photo on Winstons wall in the animated short "Recall".

Now I just wait for the Halloween event in Overwatch, hoping for a new Sombra skin ;)

The hat is the one I made for my Shock costume a couple of years ago, and the wig is my Mercy wig, just a little restyled.

Arachne: Queen of Spiders

This years Halloween costume was inspired from spiders and evil Queens.

Makeup
I wanted eight eyes for my costume, that meant a little sculpting. I already had a face cast of myself (gift from my sister) and I used Monster Clay to sculpt the overall shape and details and resin eyes for the eyes.

Then I cased the sculpt in plaster. After it was cleaned out I poured gelatin into it.

Gelatin mix is one part gelatin powder, 1 part glycerin and 1 part 50/50 honey and warm water.

My raw cast

Then came painting. I base painted it with PAX (50/50 pros aide and acrylic paint) This way I can continue using acrylic paint for detailing with out it chipping off.

Video tutorial for the makeup

Crown
The crown is made from left over worbla pieces. The web is hot glue. The crown is attached to my head with the help of a plastic headband.

Corset
Since I already had sewn a corset for my Diablo wizard costume, but hadn't finish it, I figured I could modify it a little for Halloween. The spiders are from a novelty shop and is just sewed on temporarily.

Back Jewelry
This piece of jewelry is also made from left over worbla pieces and a few extra cheap gems.

Purse
And of course I need a suitable purse for this costume as well. And I went for something that looks like a spider egg sack. It is made by gluing Styrofoam balls together and cover them with white chiffon dipped in glue and water.

Final look

Horns for cosplay - how to make

I get a lot of questions on facebook on how to make horns for cosplay, and I have actually made several different versions using different techniques. So why not sum it for you :)
Demonic horns (photo by Daniel Lange) Demon Hunter Helmet, Dragon Warrior (Photo by Håvard Nyhus) Deer makeup and Demon Hunter Pauldron (Photo by Håvard Nyhus)

Demonic Horns A base of foam, tin foil covered in masking tape. Hot glue is used to make the ridges on the horns. Full tutorial here: Demonic Horns

Dragon Horns
Base is tin foil which is wrapped in layers of news paper. The paper is primed with woos glued to make it stiffer. Creates a scale effect. Full tutorial here: Dragon Horns

Large dragon Horn
For larger horns it can be an idea to use expanding foam. Build a grid of cardboard first, add foam and carve out your shape. Then the shape is covered with masking tape and then layers of news paper. More explanation under Demon Hunter Pauldron tutorial.

Horns for helmets
Same as with the horn above, the horns for the demon hunter helmet if made with an expanding foam base. This one id covered with hot glue to create texture. More details on how to make them in the Demon Hunter Helmet tutorial

Deer antlers.
These were made with a cardboard stencil wrapped in tin foil. Texture is made with glue gun. Full tutorial here: Deer makeup

Detachable horns
I have also made a video about how to detach and attach horns for easy transportation.
