The costume consists of several components and here's the walk through of how they were made.
The halo
I spent a lot of time thinking about how to secure the halo to my head so it would not fall off, but still not have a visible band going over my wig.
My solution was a broad piece of worbla shaped after a Styrofoam head and with an elastic band in the neck. The halo itself would also be build out of worbla and would adhere perfectly to my base. The Halo is hollow making it both lightweight and with room for electronics. Two red LED were embedded into it.

The neck pieces
I wrapped a Styrofoam head in duct tape and cut it up to get my pattern.
My tape pattern.
It was sewn togerther as a corset with el strips as boning.
The larger collar was made with layering a cardboard and foam and then covering it with fabric :)
The collar closes with Velcro in the front. (making it easy to take on and off)
I dip dyed yellow cotton to a red ombre (for both the arms and the skirt).
Adding a white pattern
Using iron transfer paper I printed the logo for the arm and ironed it on.
The finished arms. I kept them separate to the suit to easier be able to the clean the suit.
The skirt
Same dip dye as with arms. (Dylon color)
Foam added to the hem
The foam was covered in wood glue and later painted silver.
The bodysuit
For the first iteration I tried to integrate the chest plate into the body suit. This did not yield the result I wanted so I made a chest plate out of worbla for the next iteration.
The rest of the suit parts were sewed on a leotard.
The "side wings" are made from cardboard and foam and covered in fabric :)
Chest piece
The tutorial for the back piece is covered in the "wings tutorial". I started with two basic mirrored shaps of worbla.
Using acrylic spheres I shaped the worbla into boob cups (this is not the best photo explaining this, see my Demon Hunter tutorial for more info on making chest armor).
The shoulders were made from layering foam and covering it in worbla. The shoulders were also attched directly to the chest piece. This way I would always be sure that they stayed in the right position. Here you can see the chest piece being covered in wood glue to smooth out the surface.
After glue it was spray painted white and detail painted with acrylic paint.
The tutorial for the back piece is covered in the "wings tutorial".
I laser cut the pattern and spray painted a pair of brown leggings with a gold spray.
Leg bracers
Made from worbla with a foam core.
The shoes
Base shoes with soles painted orange
Because I had so little time I used a pair of plain black gloves and glued on pieces of foam painted silver.
All the finished pieces ;)

AMAZING!!! CONGRATULATIONS I'M IN LOVE!
SvarSlettThank you ^_^ <3
SlettFantastic work, really interesting to see how this all came together. Love it!
SvarSlettThank you, glad you liked it :D
SlettThat legging idea is brilliant! I had been wracking my brain for a while thinking how one would get the pattern without hand panting it on or getting custom fabric printed.
SvarSlettGreat tutorial! Thank-you for sharing!!
Thank you, and so cool that you liked the way I did it :)
SlettThis is so helpful, thank you! And the result is amazing!
SvarSlettQuick question, though, if you don't mind me asking. The white abdominal section, what is it made of and it attached to the leotard? Also, the side wings, how are they attached? (Sorry to be so....nosy, but I'm trying to do this as my first venture into a more involved cosplay without it ending in too many tears lol)
More questions are good ;) The abdominal parts is made out of 2 mm foam with white fabric sewn over. This was so I would be able to sit down ;) It is sewn diretly to the leotard. The Side wings for this version (I have made new ones out of worbla now).. ok, these ones are made out of cardboard, foam and fabric and are alt sewed on to the leotard, But the new ones have D-ring embedded and I added a velcro fastening on the leotard, so I could take them off when needed :) Gonne write about the upgrades later, but first some new costumes :D Have a lovely day
SlettWow this really looks stunning. What kind of fabric did you use for the orange yellow thing :p Is it just plain cotton? I looks so stretchy :p
SvarSlettThanks. I used yellow stretch cotton which I dip dyed :) so it is stretchy ^_^
SlettThat helps me for a other cosplay. Do you still have the links where you bouhgt that moter and switch? Do all smaal ell motors can spin counter clockwise. Aah man this mercy is so god damn good. :D
SlettSorry, no links. I bought them from dx.com. I think all el motors can spin both ways, just depends on which way the electrcal current slows. Thats why I needed that switch, because it could change the way the current flows :) And thank you for liking my Mercy :)
SlettThank you so much and stay awesome :p
SlettThis is amazing.. Wow. Would you be willing to take a commission on this or some parts of the cosplay?
SvarSlettI'm very sorry, but I do not have the time :/ I would have loved to, the wings esp were very fun to build :)
SlettQuick question! Where did you find the logos'? I am looking and I tried creating my own but they are not very clear. Thanks!
SvarSletthere: http://blizzard.gamespress.com/Overwatch#?tab=misc
SlettApproximately how much did this cost you to make? Your work is so amazing. A friend is looking for a Mercy cosplay and we're trying to budget it appropriately.
SvarSlettHi, hmm, I think i spent somewhere between 4-5000 NOK in materials. (Norway is an expensive country)
SlettI want to make a male version of mercy. Do you have any ideas on what I should change?
SvarSlettThat is very much up to you, and which style you want for your costume. Flatter chest, maybe loose the skirt and add thigh armor instad....?
SlettThose are great ideas. What you think about changeing her side arm into something more aggresive like a revolver?
SvarSlettThis is amazingly helpful! Do you mind if I ask a question, though- may I know what fabric you used for the abdominal and back patterns sewn onto the leotard? I'm a little new to the cosplay scene, and I'm not sure what fabrics can give that sort of sleek look besides PVC.
SvarSlettI used stretch fabric (thick) with foam under so it kept the smoothness
SlettFicou perfeito, parabens adorei o resultado
SvarSlettmuito obrigado
SlettWow! This really looks impressive! And it's so helpful! * _ *
SvarSlettI plan on cosplay Mercy myself and this helped me a lot.
May I can just ask what wig you used as a base? I already checked out Google, but so far I only one at Arda or Epiccosplay. Do you have any suggestions? C:
Hi, Thank you ^_^ I actually bought mine from coscraft.co.uk :) Good luck
SlettHi there! I've been wanting to make a mercy cosplay since the game came out and I think I'm finally going to start! I just found your tutorial and I was wondering how you attached the back plate to the chest piece and how you get in and out of that chest piece it looks like it's one solid piece! Great job though it looks amazing!!! :D
SvarSletthi. The chest and back are solid, but big enough to place on my body. They attach to each other with straps and clip buckles.
SlettAmazing job wow!!! How did you do the staff if you don't mind me asking? Looks great!!
SvarSlettHi, Thank you. I've written a whole seperate tutorial for the staff (and the wings) http://chrixdesign.blogspot.no/2015/11/building-mercys-caduseus-staff-overwatch.html
SlettSo I havent worked with worbla before, and so far I've seen good tutorials for it but is there a certain kind you used because I cant find a good place to buy it? The only thing I've found close is Instamorph on Amazon, any help would be greatly appreciated!
SvarSlettHi, sorry for the very late reply. You can buy worbla at coscraft.co.uk
SlettHello! I was just wondering how much Worbla and Fabric you used for these pieces, I'm planning on my own Mercy costume and I'm not sure how much I should buy, do you have any tips? I'd be super appreciative! Thank you!
SvarSlettIt has been so long since I made this costume, So I'm sorry but I don't remember.
SlettThat's alright! Thank you for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it
SlettHello, I'm a beginner to making cosplay and this would be my first full scale project, what tips would you have for someone like me, such as problems you ran into along the way? I would really appreciate it. :)
SvarSlettIt's ok if you don't remember because it was so long ago but any tips are appreciated :)
SlettI have written most of my thoughts in this blog - with main problem being I didn't like the first chest plate, so I made a new one. Not really sure what you are wondering about?
SlettIt looks Beautiful! Awesome work <3
SvarSlettMay i ask; how did you make the leg bracers?
Hi. I made it from Worbla with a foam backing. There are a few pictures in this post. And thank you ^_^
SlettLove this cosplay so much that i am doing it myself uwu. One question tho, what fabric did you make the arms from?
SvarSlettHi. The arms are made from a yellow cotton jersey which I dip-dyed red. The white parts is 2 mm foam covered in white Lycrs (I think). Markings are just drawn on.
SlettWhat kind of shoes are those, and where did you buy them? I cant seem to find shoes like that on Amazon, please help
SvarSlettHi. These are random ankle boots I bought at Skopunkten in Oslo.
SlettFantastic job but I am not good at making my own costume,so the only way for me to cosplay is buy xcoos online.
SvarSletthow can i buy it?
SvarSlettSorry, but it is not for sale :)
SlettHow did you put the wig on over the headband? would this work with a heavily styled wig?
SvarSlettVery carfully. And yes, I think it would work with more heavily styled wigs. I'm gonna upgrade my Mercy, including the wig. So maybe I'll come up with something new ;)
SlettThank you! However im still alittle lost, how did you manage to get it so the headband was under the wig?? did you put the wig on first and then the headband? or wig then headband? also i cant wait to see your new mercy cosplay!
SlettThe headband first. And then slide the wig on from the back of the head and under the halo. If I have time during the holidays I might film how I did it :)
SlettThank you so much! that made it alot more clear
SlettHi, I am starting to make my own mercy cosplay, and I was wondering what kind of lights you used in the halo, because I don't know how to hide them in such an open place. If someone already asked this, I'm very sorry. Have a nice day!
SvarSlettI only used two small LED, and Hid the wires inside the Halo (which is hollow) But, I'm making a new Halo soon for an upgraded Mercy, and I don't think I will bother with the lights in that Halo. I say make it comfortable to wear as your first priority :)
SlettHello, I`m about to make the Mercy Halo but I am not used to use foam/worbla, so if it`s not too much to ask can you describe it a little to me what you did to make it so good looking. also I need to know what i need to buy to make this work :) Do I just need a normal hairdryer or do i need to buy another type?
SvarSlettHope it`s not too much to ask for. Love your cosplays :D
Hi. I think the best way would be to use high density EVA foam, like the one Kamui uses. I made mine out of worbla and it is quite heavy. Either way you need to use a heat gun to shape the material, a hairdryer isn't warm enough.
SlettKamui has written a bit more about working with foam in this tutorial: https://www.kamuicosplay.com/2016/12/06/foamcos-2/
Also, I'm going to make a new halo soon, and I'll post more photos then :)
Good luck
Hi! First of all amazing cosplay! I am trying to make my first mercy costume myself, and this is a lot of help. You used wood glue on the chestplate. What kind was that? I live in Norway too, so if you remember where you bought it, that would be awesome!
SvarSlettThank you. I mainly use the wood glue from Clas Ohlson. YHou could also use the plastidip from Biltema :)
