Cleopatra costume

This costume was originally made for a music video project, but after I had finished it they suddenly changed their mind and didn't want to use it anyways. Last time I work for free, I can tell you that.

But I did then end up with a brand new Cleopatra costume for myself and any occasion for a dressing up and taking some photos is appreciated.

For my Cleopatra look I was first planning to wear a black braided wig, but the wig I had in mind was so ugly I had to do something else. So I made a headdress to hide away most of the hair.

The head dress
I started with a Styrofoam head and wrapped it in tin foil. If you don't have one of these then just start by wrapping your head in tin foil and then use a balloon as support for the rest of the build.

Then I covered it in masking tape. This will be my base :) A very fast way to get a dome without waiting for paper mache to dry. You should test to see of your Aluminum foil hat fits your head before moving on ;)

New hair - Red from Transistor

Sometimes my hair deside what I should cosplay, as with the time I cospalyed Bellatrix Lestrange. With my new hairdo I had to quickly pull together something for a Red Cosplay. I have wanted to cosplay this amazing character for ages and will do the full cosplay for EuroCosplay 2015, that is at least the plan :)

But until then I asked my hairdresser to style my hair like Red before going home (I think she likes my unusual requests).
And now I'm even more eager to cosplay from this wonderful game.

Liara T'Soni revisited

In 2012 I made a Liara T'Soni cosplay from Mass Effect. I'm a huge fan of this game and love every character there. Looking back I saw that I have learned so much more and wanted to upgrade my Liara. Here are some photos of my first iteration of the costume

The head piece.
I made a completely new head piece. It didn't turn out quite as I wanted, so when I'm making Aria this summer (uh yes, more asari) I will most probably make a whole new headpiece. Here is the tutorial for how I made it years ago, a little updated though.
- Sculpting
- Molding
- Casting

I know I want to upgrade Liara even more in the future, and also make some of her other outfits. Until next time, here are a few more photos.

How to present yourself on stage for a competition

I just wrote a post with some tips on how to present yourself to the judges, sum up: Brag about your costume, don't be shy! (And it looked like you enjoyed those tips)

But let's not forget the play in cosplay. If you enter a competition you should always prepare as if you are going to the "show round". It is more common (at least in Norway) that a competition consists of two rounds, one catwalk with prejudgeing and a "show round". For the second round you often get to use microphones, pre recorded music, video and influence the stage lights.

The show is mainly for the audience, who might not know who you are cosplaying. The main key is to entertain no matter if someone know you character of not ;) Fandomily cosplay have written a sum up about what they think is the most interesting to see in a cospaly show when preparing, check out the post here.

So since they have covered most about the content, let us plan the rest of the show together.

You should alwa…

How to present your costume in a competition

I have been a judge for a couple of different events now and I have attended several competitions with my own costumes. And even though I'm not an expert on everything I can still evaluate what I see and what you tell me. And there lies the punchline. "What you tell me".

Here are a few tips that can make the prejudging easier :)

First, the judges doesn't always know who you are cosplaying (Shocking right). They might have gotten the reference photo like 5 minutes before they are to judge 20-30 contestants. It is fair to say that they don't really know much before they meet you.

That also means that sometimes they don't see if the fabric shade is a little too dark or if you a missing a rivet. So don't tell them ;) If you point out your flaws then the judges will definitely see them.

Of course if the judges asks you a direct …

Ladies and gentlemen, come closer, come closer. Tonight, for one night only, we present Cirque de Chrix!

I was invited as a cosplay guest to Red Room Ball, a fetish event in Oslo. This was my first time at an event like this, so I needed a concept for what to wear as latex isn't my thing (unless it is applied as a zombie makeup). I remembered that my mother had bought me this amazing tail coat a while back. So ringmaster it is, closet cosplay style.

My jacket is black and the traditional ringmaster do wear something red... hey! My Codex corset is red, let's resew that one.

Strip away the gems

And add some show style ;)

And a top hat, I really need a top hat for this.

I saw this amazing Harley Quinn makeup by Julia Graf, the color scheme match me perfectly.

And there you go, a fast way to cosplay a Ringmaster. And I had the best time at the Red Room Ball, so open, understanding and unique people <3
